So... I was just browsing the right wing propaganda machine (FOX "News") earlier to see what fear tactics they have up now when I stumbled upon this story: My Fellow Conservatives, Think Carefully About Your Opposition to Gay Marriage written by Conservative Republican Margaret Hoover. You know she's a real tight faced prissy Republican with that name, by the way (and not some hacker). It really made me feel OK about the younger generation Conservative party although the whole thing is more for political gain than it is for civil rights. I have no idea what to do now... its like a part of my identity is missing - and I keep having this feeling like something is going to go terribly wrong soon - oh wait thats just from being on the Fox "News" website - not the article.
What is going to happen next? Real, live, brightly colored gay unicorns? By the way the story used the medical sounding "homosexual" more times than I cared for - do the crazy str8s not understand that it's a gross way to describe an entire population of people? Straight guys: It's like trying to get all hot with your lady friend or whatever and saying "I want in your Vagina". Straight girls: Its like trying to get all hot with your man and saying "I want to touch your hot penis". It's just gross. Its more proper to use GLBTQ(IA), the gays, or "girlfriends" (with a snapping motion) - even faggot has a more appealing ring to it than homosexual. Just sayin'.
Anyway, it is good to see a little love from the Conservatives - and maybe even a little understanding from the author. It is UNCONSTITUTIONAL to deny a minority group the same RIGHTS and benefits as the majority. Gay marriage is not about taking a dump on the Bible, or the Qur'an, or any other Holy Book. It is about the recognition of love, about BENEFITS (like taxes), and a word that is commonly understood (for instance some people working in a hospital might not understand "domestic partner" but they would certainly understand "married spouse"), and about having the *choice* to marry. I do not want to take over your church or force my beliefs on you - I could care less if you hate me - but I do want the same RIGHTS and PRIVILEGES as everyone else.
Okay... so now that my feelings are out of the way I am just glad to see this day and know that we are all one step closer to EQUALITY. Make sure to read some of the comments from what has to be the middle of America in the article - some are quite humorous - while others are disturbing like:
"A fundamental right to marry for an unpopular minority. Why not legalize polygamy, bigamy, incestual marriage, or group marriage? Where does is end Hoover?"
Give me a fu..ing break "hispanicpanic" in Texas. That is the craziest thing ever. Ever! Some people might look at your screen name and assume you are an illegal alien and should have NO rights - I am not one of them, but just sayin'!
