Says Mosque Comments 'Deplorable,' 'Sick Politics.'
Maybe some folks at the GOP got a wake up call and realized that Newt Gingrich is leading the party off a cliff and much of America with him. Joe Scarborough, a former GOP Congressman, who is currently a cable talk show host, criticized Newt Gingrich, the GOP leader and former House Speaker for his "sick" and racist comments on the Islamic cultural center and mosque which are planned to be built two blocks away from New York's Ground Zero.
The Huffington Post reports -- On Saturday, Gingrich "called the proposed center a symbol of Muslim 'triumphalism' and compared the construction of such a building to 'putting a Nazi sign next to the Holocaust Museum.' He repeated the Nazi analogy in an interview Monday morning on Fox News and referred to the project's organizers as 'radical Islamists,' a characterization that is demonstrably false. Joe Scarborough didn't take too kindly to Gingrich's words, and let him know in no uncertain terms. Scarborough said of Gingrich's comments, 'This is madness. There are elements of our party that are marching through the fevered swamps of ideology."
Gingrich must think America is at war with American Muslims, or that his rhetoric is going to rally the Republican base to him. He must think that Republicans are stupid fools who will follow him into a drowning sea.
