Ron Paul spoke at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference on Saturday, taking on the Republican party establishment as well as President Obama and the Democratic Party. First of all, he linked the Republican and the Democratic Parties leadership together as to whose interests their governing policies serve and protect.
He began saying: "The question has been raised about whether or not our president is a socialist. I am sure there are some people here who believe it. But in the technical sense, in the economic definition of a what a socialist is, no, he's not a socialist. He's a corporatist. And unfortunately we have corporatists inside the Republican party." He explained what corporatism is, saying, "that means you take care of corporations and corporations take over and run the country."
Ron Paul gave examples. He said President Obama's "corporatism" is evident in the new heath care law. The new law with its requirement demanding universal participation is based on a Republican idea, in the past championed by such Republican leaders a Mitt Romney and, John McCain. Mr. Paul said that the new law gives to the corporations the power over health care and creates a "medical-industrial complex." He criticized Republican and Democratic support for continuation supported for corporatism and called for libertarian-style governance.
I have always found Ron Paul to be one of the most honest politicians out there. I like some of his ideas, but have found most of his ideas to be unworkable.
